Spokane Shock head coach Rob Keefe, never a man short on words, sad this week the hit that injured his starting quarterback was a cheap shot that never should have happened.

Speaking to SWX this week about the injury to Kyle Rowley, Keefe explained he didn't want to give too much hope by saying he'd be back in a couple of weeks. At the same time, he didn't want to cause too much angst by saying Rowley wouldn't be back for two months.

At the most basic level though, Keefe said the injury never should have happened.

"I think it was a cheap shot by James Bear, it was a late hit and they called the late hit, but it was a late hit where they just kind of power-drived him and drove him into the turf," said Keefe. "You've got Kyle in between the turf and a 280-pound man, and he just kind of took him out right there."

To be fair to the Vigilantes, Bear is listed at 6-2, 255 pounds, far below the 280 Keefe assigned him. But even the referees said the hit was against the rules to say the least. He claim to fame, by the way, was a sack against former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

"We definitely want [Rowley] on this football team and we hope he gets back for us," said Keefe.
