Local Student Reports Luring Incident

KHQ.COM - A 14-year-old Northwood Middle School student reported a possible luring incident that occurred as she walked home by herself Tuesday afternoon.

The girl told Deputy Matt Spink that she was walking westbound from Farwell on Pittsburg about 2:35 p.m. when she heard a vehicle slowing down. She looked and saw a blue full-size van that had some scratches in the paint, but was otherwise in good shape.

She also said it had tinted windows and no license plates. The driver, a white male in his mid 20's to 30's, was wearing sunglasses and a "boonie" style hat. The girl did not see any other passengers.

The driver asked if he could give the girl a ride home and she told him "no" and continued walking. The van was pacing her and the man kept asking the girl to get in, that she would be safe with him. 

The girl told Spink she pulled her calculator from her backpack and began pretending to dial as if it was a cellular phone. The van drove off westbound on Farwell to Hastings.

The girl went home and immediately called her father to report the matter. Deputies checked the area for the van without success.

Galvin died as a result of injuries sustained when his helicopter crash in Sinjar, Ninevah Province, Iraq on Monday. The crash is still under investigation.

    TETERBORO, N.J. - A private jet that blew two tires during takeoff at a small New Jersey airport has landed safely at an airport in New York.
     The Gulfstream IV landed Tuesday at New York Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of New York City. Emergency responders were ready by the runway.
