UPDATE: 7 American Troops Killed In Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A U.S. official says all seven of the NATO service members killed in a powerful bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan were Americans.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for Thursday's bombing in Shorabak district of Kandahar province near the Pakistan border.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not yet been publicly released.
Afghan officials says two Afghan policemen also were killed in the blast. Separately, the coalition said an eighth NATO service member was killed in a helicopter crash Thursday in eastern Afghanistan.
It was the deadliest day for coalition forces in Afghanistan since April 27, when an Afghan military pilot opened fire at Kabul airport and killed eight U.S. troops and an American civilian contractor.
