Students In Cd'A Get Hands-On Experience In Agriculture

DALTON GARDENS, Idaho— First graders from Dalton Elementary took a field trip today to the Roots CSA Garden where they planted pumpkin sprouts.

The students planted the seeds several weeks ago in their classrooms as part of an agricultural program put on by the Kootenai Environmental Alliance. The pumpkins will grow over the summer and next fall the students will be able to come back and pick the pumpkins they planted. It's a learning experience volunteers say the kids seem to really enjoy.

"They get to get outside, get fresh air, play in the dirt," said Janet Torline, Kootenai Environmental Alliance volunteer. "I heard a few comments like this is so much fun, look at this worm. It's hands-on, it's real they can come here all summer long, visit their pumpkins and watch the transformation."

This is the second year the school has put on this program for its students.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Neighbors and business owners in Hillyard tell KHQ they don't know how much more they can take. They said a motorhome is attracting all kinds of trouble. Piles of trash surround it, and neighbors said it is a magnet for crime. They said even human waste is going into the roadway. "It's a war zone," said one neighbor. "It's nothing but trouble," said another.
