KHQ EXCLUSIVE: Rowdy Suspect FIGHTS With Police Officers In West Central Spokane

KHQ.COM - On Wednesday afternoon dozens of police responded to an emergency call for an officer in trouble at Cannon and Gardener. Police say 34-year-old Kenneth Barton was in the bushes injecting himself with what they believe was heroin when they tried to arrest him for several outstanding warrants. Barton resisted arrest and began to fight with the two officers, so they called for emergency for backup.

"Barton is a pretty big guy and put up a pretty good fight," said Sergeant Joe Peterson, with the Spokane Police Anti-crime Unit. "He had loaded syringes in his pocket, they were uncapped as officers were fighting him."

Both the officers and the suspect sustained scratches and bruises from the fight but they are minor injuries. Police took Barton into custody, he will be charged with resisting arrest.

Barton was wanted by crime stoppers for Second-Degree Assault, City Theft, Third-Degree Driving while License Suspended, and as a Material Witness. Barton has a 19-year criminal history.
