Possible Arsonist In Northwest Spokane County

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Firefighters are investigating a string of fires in Northwest Spokane County. In just one month, crews have responded to six separate fires on the 16-thousand block of 4 Mound Road.

Two weeks ago a vacant home went down in flames and was declared a total loss. Today, the barn on that property also suspiciously burned down. There was no electricity running in either of the structures.

Investigators say the series of fires were likely started by an arsonist because of the the close proximity and suspicious circumstances.

So far no one has been injured, but neighbors still fear for their safety. "We're all freaked out, scared," said Laurie Jackson, a neighbor who has witnessed three of the fires. "We're calling our insurance company to up our coverage because frankly I don't know if were going to survive the summer out here. I'm going to pack things up and be ready to evacuate quickly because it's pretty obvious were under attack."

Fire district 5 is working with district 9 to investigate the fires. So far there are no leads. Anyone with information is asked to call the fire department at 509-796-4793.
