UPDATE: Body Of Missing Hiker Found

LEAVENWORTH, Wash. - Rescuers have recovered the body of a 21-year-old Eatonville woman who fell down a snow face on Aasgard Pass southwest of Leavenworth.

Chelan County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Harris told the Wenatchee World on Monday that the woman's body was flown out of the area by a Whidbey Island Naval Airbase helicopter late Sunday.

The woman was hiking with her boyfriend and two other companions when she slid down a snow face and disappeared over an edge into an opening about 5 feet wide. Rescuers were called Sunday morning. Aasgard Pass is located in the Cascade Mountains. It is one of
two routes to the Enchantment Lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. - Multiple agencies are conducting a search in the Aasgard Pass area for a missing 21-year-old hiker, who disappeared yesterday morning. The woman was hiking with her boyfriend and two other people when she slid down the snow face and disappeared into an opening. She hasn't been seen since. Below is the official Chelan County Sheriff's Office Press Release.

Sheriff Burnett reports as of 1107 hours, a search and rescue is underway for a missing hiker.  The hiker is a 21 year old female from Tacoma, Washington.  She was hiking in the Aasgard Pass area with her boyfriend and two other companions when she slid down the snow face disappearing  over the edge into opening approximately 5 feet wide.   The female screamed and her boyfriend went to her aid when he saw a 45 degree cut under the snow pack that led into a crevasse with a large volume of water running under the snow pack.

The victim has not been seen or located since the incident took place.  The missing female was reported missing by another camper in the Aasgard Pass area.  The call for help came into the River Com dispatch center at approximately 1107 hrs. this date.

Search and Rescue teams from Chelan County, King County,  Snohomish County and Whidby Island Naval Air Base were called.  Whidby Island Naval Air Based launched their  helicopter and are assisting with mountain rescue technical experts to assist in the rescue.  The US Forest Service--Wenatchee River District currently has 2 backforest Rangers assisting with the search from the Aasgard Pass area.

This  is considered highly technical rescue due to the extreme hiking conditions and geographical location.

Currently there are at least 30 personnel working on the search.  It is unknown how many other rescuer's are in the area of Aasgard pass attempting to assist.  Radio communications are limited until rescue personnel can be inserted to the search location.
