UPDATE: Key Suspect Arrested In North Spokane Standoff

UPDATE: Spokane Police Sgt. Kurt Vigesaa arrested Kenneth Kheel just after midnight. Kheel was wanted for 2 counts of 1st degree Robbery and 1st degree Kidnapping, stemming from an incident a month ago.

Sgt. Vigesaa located Kheel inside a vehicle near Riverside and Monroe, initiated a traffic stop and placed Kheel under arrest without incident.

Officers had been searching for Kheel after a search warrant was executed at his home, 1124 W. Nora.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM SPD: On July 11, 2011 at 10:30 p.m. members of the Spokane Police Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) located wanted suspects in a recent robbery. Officers surrounded 1124 W. Nora and attempted to arrest Jarred T. Many (1/4/89) and Kenneth J. Kheel (8/5/89).

The SPD SWAT team and Hostage Negotiators responded and convinced Jarred Many to come out of the house. Many was taken into custody for two counts of 1st degree Robbery and 1st degree Kidnapping.

Police believed Kheel was still inside the home and the SWAT team inserted chemical agents.  SWAT officers searched the home and located Anthony Haines (6/28/87) hiding in the basement. Haines was arrested for unrelated felony warrants. Kheel was not inside the home and remains outstanding on the robbery/kidnapping warrants.

The robbery occurred on June 17, 2011 at 6pm when two men attempted to purchase a ring from Jarred Many at 1124 W. Nora. The victims were escorted inside the home and subsequently robbed. The suspects pushed the victims to the floor, beat and pistol whipped them. They were held at gun point until the money was retrieved and then forced to leave the home. Upon leaving, the suspects threatened to kill them if they called police.

Major Crimes Detective Neil Gallion investigated the robbery and obtained arrest warrants for Jarred Many and Kenneth Kheel. Anyone with information about Kheel's whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 327-5111.
