There have been a lot of changes made at Spokane County Raceway in Airway heights, not the least of which is a reconfiguration of the track to a 2-1/4-mile road course. And just in time for the Festival of Speed.

Beginning Friday, more than 100 of the fastest road racers in the Northwest descend on the Spokane area for the Northwest Grand Prix. The event runs through Sunday.

"We're just pleased as punch that we are able to do it," said Art Metz, one of the organizers of the event. "After so many years of being a non-spectator event it's really, really great to have so many people able to show up. And even though we can't see the entire track from here there will be enough cars on track. You'll see a lot of really good action fender to fender."

A wide variety of race cars will be featured – from open wheel formula cars to NASCAR-style ground pounders. A Custom Car and Hot Rod Show is scheduled for Saturday, followed by the Porsche Club Sports Car Show on Sunday.

Admission is $15.00 per day or $25 for both days, and kids 12 and under are free.
