Car Jacking Suspects Total Stolen Car After High-Speed Pursuit

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: Four juveniles are in custody after fleeing from Spokane Police in a car stolen during a carjacking early on the morning of July 19th (Inc. #11-219989). The original call for this incident came in as a person with a weapon call.

The witness called in saying he had seen some people in a car brandishing a weapon in the area of 5th/Rebecca. There were several officers nearby who had just cleared another call and found the suspect car within minutes. A brief pursuit ensued, but officers started to back off the chase when the suspects reached speeds of approximately 70mph on Freya St.

The lead officer lost sight of the car briefly as it crested a hill, only to come over the top of the hill and see the vehicle crashed into a building and the four suspects fleeing. Shortly after the car was crashed, it burst into flames. Patrol officers and a K9 officer were able to locate all four suspects within a half an hour of the crash.

None of them sustained injuries from the crash, but two of them were treated and released at area hospitals because they were contacted by the K9.

The suspects, 3 males and one female, were all booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for Possession of Stolen Property. A gun that was stolen during the carjacking was also recovered.
