Jail Back On Emergency Booking Status
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: The Spokane County Jail has again been placed on Emergency Booking Status as the inmate population exceeded 620 inmates for more than 24 hours.
The jail will accept inmates arrested on domestic violence charges and warrants as custodial arrest is mandatory in those instances. The jail will also accept all felony and some gross misdemeanor arrests.
Although misdemeanor charges such at third-degree theft and driving while license suspended will not be booked into jail, supervisors have authority to make exceptions depending on circumstances.
Weekends typically swell the jail population because there is no first appearance court on Sundays. At these hearings, many inmates are released on their own recognizance or on small bonds which drops the total jail population below the 620-inmate limit.
Total jail population as of 7:15 a.m. Monday was 639 inmates.
