UPDATE: Deadly Early Morning Crash In East Spokane

OFFICIAL UPDATED PRESS RELEASE: Investigators are now releasing the driver's name from Tuesday's fatality crash on Broadway.

He is 46-year-old Michael S. Lindsly. Lindsly suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries when he lost control of his car at Broadway and Alki Way just before 6:00 am this morning.

His passenger, whose name is still being withheld pending next of kin notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Witnesses put the speeds of the vehicle at between 70 and 100mph just prior to the crash and investigators also believe alcohol was a factor. 

Once Lindsly is released from the hospital, he will be booked into Spokane County Jail for Vehicular Homicide.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: Traffic investigators from Spokane Police Department's Major Crimes Unit have shut down Broadway from Havana to Alki Way for a fatality crash. The call came in at 5:52 Tuesday morning and crews responding determined the passenger in the car was deceased at the scene. The driver was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

Based on witness statements and preliminary evidence at the scene, indications are the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Broadway. The car crashed when the driver was unable to negotiate the curve at Alki Way. Investigators at the hospital determined alcohol was also a factor in the crash.

The driver is currently under arrest for Vehicular Homicide. The identities of both the passenger and the driver will be released when the passenger's next of kin have been notified.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One person was killed and another is in critical condition after a crash at Alki Way and Broadway in East Spokane Tuesday morning. It happened at approximately 5:50 a.m. Both occupants of the vehicle were male. 

Authorities at the scene telling KHQ's Blake Jensen the vehicle flipped and rolled into the side of the 'Murphy Brothers' building. There was no immediate indication as to what caused the driver to lose control. It's also not clear if it was the driver or the passenger who was killed.  

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.   

Alki Way through that area is closed while crews investigate and clear the debris.
