Go ahead Shock fans. Either celebrate or shake your head. The most valuable player in the Arena Football League this year was former Spokane and current Arizona quarterback Nick Davila.

Davila, who played in college for Cincinnati before leading Spokane while in the af2, was named the league MVP yesterday. It is the first time the AFL has handed out an MVP award since 1995.

In his second season in the AFL Davila led the lead in pass efficiency (127.6) and ranked second in completion percentage (70.7) and pass completions (427). He led the Rattlers to their best regular season record in franchise history, notching 16 wins and just two losses – one of them to Spokane.

Under Davila's leadership, the Rattlers won the National Conference championship for the first time since 2004. He'll lead the team one last time in the Arena Bowl on Saturday.

Other candidates for the MVP award included Jacksonville quarterback – and former WSU QB – Aaron Garcia, New Orleans receiver PJ Berry, Chicago receiver Reggie Gray, Orlando defensive back Rayshaun Kizer, Chicago defensive back Vic Hall, Georgia receiver Marurice Purify and Utah quarterback Tommy Grady.
