Boom Goes the… We Don’t Know

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – It was the boom heard ‘round the Valley and authorities still aren't sure what caused the sound of a loud explosion on Wednesday night.

Viewers started calling the KHQ Newsroom just before 10:30 reporting a flash and a boom from all corners of Spokane Valley.

"It just sounded like a huge crack," said Barry Hobbs, who lives near Pines Road and Broadway Avenue in Spokane Valley.

Authorities at Avista, Inland Power, Vera Water & Power and Modern Electric Water Company all said their power service was never interrupted and all transformers in the area were accounted for.

Authorities at the FAA and Fairchild Air Force Base had no reports of sonic booms in the area from aircraft in the sky last night.

The police department received several call about the sound but deputies couldn't locate anything suspicious that could have caused the sound.

Hobbs saw a meteor in Oregon several years ago and said the sound he heard last night was similar to the one he heard then leading him to the big bang theory that last night's explosion was a meteor.

"It might have been that (a meteor)," he said. "There's no sign around here, I don't know what else it could have been."
