Wenatchee Man Fatally Stabs Wife In Front Of Children

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - Police say a man stabbed his wife to death in front of their children Sunday during an argument at their home in Wenatchee.

Police say their 13-year-old daughter was stabbed in an arm when she tried to intervene. The man fled and was found after a short search. Officers arrested 40-year-old Sebastian Cortes-Aguilar for investigation of murder and assault.

His wife, 38-year-old Ortencia Arroyo Alehandre, was declared dead at the scene.

The 13-year-old girl was treated and placed in the care of godparents along with her 7-year-old brother.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

Law enforcement officers quickly arrested a 40 year old-man who stabbed his wife to death in front of their children in South Wenatchee this afternoon. Ortencia Arroyo Alejandre, 38-years-old, was stabbed to death in her home in the 800 block of Methow Street in Wenatchee at 1:15 PM.

Alejandre was home with her 13-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son. Her 40-year-old husband, Sebastian Cortes-Aguilar, came to the house and the two argued.

The argument escalated and Cortes-Aguilar armed himself with a knife from the home. He then stabbed Alejandre multiple times in the upper body and throat.  The 13-year-old daughter attempted to intervene and was stabbed one time in the left forearm.

When law enforcement officers and paramedics arrived they found Cortes-Aguilar had fled.  Ortencia Alejandre was pronounced dead at the scene and the 13-year old daughter was treated for her injuries at Central Washington Hospital and released, along with her brother, to Godparents who are taking care of them.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies began searching for Cortes-Aguilar.  He was located by officers of the Wenatchee Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office in a trailer park in the 400 block of S. Kentucky, East Wenatchee. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Wenatchee police station.

Cortes-Aguilar had several minor cuts and abrasions on his hands and body that may have happened when he stabbed Ortencia Alejandre. Possible blood was also located in his vehicle and on his shoes.

After being interviewed he was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center for Murder in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree. Both of these charges are domestic violence offenses.
