Spokane, WA—In a rain-soaked affair at Avista Stadium, the Indians capitalized on a strong pitching performance from starter Santo Perez (6-4), and timely hitting from their beleaguered lineup, as Spokane defeated Everett 3-1.
Perez, a tall right-hander from the Dominican Republic, held the Aquasox to just one run on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Kyle Hendricks backed up Perez with two scoreless frames and Matt West struck out the final two batters in the ninth for his eighth save.
The Indians offense drew first blood in the game as Zach Cone drilled a long home run over the ITRON sign in leftfield in the third inning. Spokane scored twice more in the fourth on RBI doubles from Yefry Castillo and newcomer Jimmy Swift to extend their lead to 3-0; more than enough for the Indians dialed-in pitching staff.
The win left Spokane (33-40 overall) one game behind Boise (34-39 overall) for the final spot in the TicketsWest Northwest League Playoffs.
