UPDATE: Two People Dead After Apparent Murder/Suicide In North Spokane

Spokane County Sheriff's Press Release: Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting call in the east 200 block of Westview Ave in north Spokane last night around 9:11 pm. The residence deputies responded to was that of a 4-plex type apartment. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered a 20-year-old female in the living room of one of the apartments who had been shot more than once and was deceased.

Witnesses inside the apartment where the shooting took place said the next door neighbor in the 4-plex, believed to be a 26-year-old male, was the one who did the shooting and had retreated back into his apartment. Numerous law enforcement officers from the city, county, and state responded to the area in an effort to contain the shooter in his residence, along with safely getting those neighbors who live in the area out.

Negotiators were called to the scene in attempt to make contact with the suspect and peacefully talk him out of his apartment. While these officers and deputies worked on making contact with the suspect, Sheriff's Major Crimes detectives completed a search warrant so they could enter both the victim's and suspect's apartment.

Negotiators were never able to make any kind of contact with the suspect.  The Sheriff's SWAT team was then called in and they made entry into the suspect's apartment around 4 am.  An adult male was found deceased in the bathroom with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Several weapons were found in the suspect's apartment.

Detectives and forensic specialists are finishing up processing the scene.  It is unknown at this time what led to the one neighbor shooting the other.  The incident is still under investigation and autopsies will be completed on both individuals early next week.  Names of those involved will likely be released by the Medical Examiner's Office after the post mortem examinations.
