Moses Lake Man Dies After Falling In Irrigation Canal

MOSES LAKE, Wash. - A Moses Lake man died early this morning after falling into an irrigation canal near Moses Lake.

Around 1:15 a.m. today, emergency responders were summoned to the 13500 block of North Frontage Road East, southeast of the City of Moses Lake for a possible drowning.

What investigators have learned is two men were riding in a car on the canal service road. The car became stuck when they tried to turn around. The men left the vehicle on foot to get help moving the vehicle. While walking along the canal road, one of the men fell into the canal. His friend tried to rescue him, but the victim was swept downstream by the current. The victim's body was recovered by Sheriff's Search and Rescue divers around 3:20 a.m.

The victim's body is in the custody of the Grant County Coroner. The autopsy is set for Friday. The victim's name will be released by the Coroner's Office.

Thus far, investigators believe this was a terrible accident.

"The loss must be heartbreaking for the victim's family and friends, and my thoughts and prayers are with them," said Sheriff Tom Jones.
