UPDATE: Fire In North Spokane Destroys House

SPOKANE, Wash. - Saturday night, seven Companies of Spokane Firefighters, five engines, one senior ladder, one heavy rescue under the direction of Battalion Chiefs Donahoe and Sabo responded to a Structure Fire at 1816 E. Empire.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing on the back side of a one story single family dwelling. Occupants in the front yard confirmed that everyone was accounted for and outside of the home. Trees and a home were identified as exposures due to the close proximity to the quick moving fire and were protected.

Additionally, engine companies made an aggressive attack on the fire inside the structure which included the basement, the first floor and the attic. The Ladder Company provided ventilation of the roof and searched for extension of the fire. Companies remained on scene for several hours overhauling the fire.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit. There was extensive fire damage to the back half of the home on the first floor and roof. There was moderate fire damage to the basement and smoke damage throughout the home. Damages are estimated at about $100,000.

Spokane, WASH- A house fire that started Saturday night left one home badly damaged in North Spokane.

Fire Crews were called to a fire on the 1800 block of East Empire around 9:15.

The first floor of a house went up in flames when a fire began in the rear of the house. There were 2 people in the house when the fire started, and both were able to escape unharmed.

Officials say there is extensive damage to the house around where the fire started.

The 1800 block of E. Empire was closed for a long time as Investigators spent time trying to figure out the cause of the fire.

    LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A 20-year-old Washington state man has been sentenced to less than three years in prison for raping a high school student as she died from a drug overdose and texting semi-nude photos of her. The Daily Herald reports that Brian Varela pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, third-degree rape, and unlawful disposal of remains as part of a plea deal in the February death of 18-year-old Alyssa Noceda.
