Reports Of Gunman On Air Force Base Possibly Unfounded

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A spokesman at an Air Force base in Arizona says the lockdown at the base today was prompted by reports that someone had been seen with something that looked like a weapon. But those reports haven't been confirmed.

Tech Sgt. Russ Martin says the base went into "crisis action mode" as a precaution. Traffic in and out of the base was limited.

A military official says a special agent on the base reported that an armed individual had walked into a building on the base on the outskirts of Tucson. There were reports that someone had been shot, but those reports proved to be unfounded.

Ambulances were sent to the base -- but the spokesman says it was because of a woman going into labor.

As the lockdown unfolded, students were kept in schools on the base.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is the home of the 355th Fighter Wing. It's adjacent to the Pima Air & Space Museum.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Initiative-1639 has been the root of controversy ever since supporters began asking for signatures. It became even more complicated when the Washington Supreme Court overturned a Thurston County judges decision after the judge initially threw out over 300,000 signatures saying the petition didn't follow election law claiming it was unreadable.
