UPDATE: Idaho Boy, 2, Fatally Shot By 3-Year-Old Brother
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Police in southern Idaho identified a 2-year-old boy who was shot by his 3-year-old brother.
Brandon Herrera died on Thursday morning at a Boise hospital after being shot in the head with a .22 caliber revolver. He was transported there Wednesday by emergency airlift after being shot at his home in Rupert, located about 165 miles east of Idaho's capital city.
Rupert police as well as officials with the state Department of Health and Welfare are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, including how the 3-year-old got a hold of the weapon.
Minidoka County prosecuting attorney Lance Stevenson said he won't make a decision about whether to file charges in the case until the investigation has been completed.
