UPDATE: Suspected Burglar Shot And Killed Near Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE, Wash.  - The home occupant suspected of shooting and killing an alleged burglar last night has been arrested on an unrelated firearms charge, and two other burglary suspects are still at large.

The attempted burglary around 9 p.m. Sunday at 4301 Ottmar Road NE #5 was apparently spurred when three men went to the home to allegedly steal marijuana from the home's occupant, Timothy P. Mandelas, age 44 of Moses Lake. Mandelas appears to be the holder of a medical marijuana card.

Mandelas allegedly shot one of the burglars, who later died at a Spokane Hospital. The two other alleged burglars fled the scene and are at large. We are working to provide descriptions of these men.

Mandelas has cooperated with investigators regarding the shooting, but he was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of being a convicted felon possessing a firearm. Mandelas' criminal history includes previous arrests for forgery and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (class C felonies) and a 2010 arrest for fourth degree assault/domestic violence.

Previous Coverage:

MOSES LAKE, Wash. One man is dead after being shot Sunday night in what appears to have been an attempted burglary near Moses Lake.

Around 9:00 p.m. Sunday Oct. 17, Grant County Sheriff's Deputies and Moses Lake Police Officers answered a 9-1-1 call for a robbery in progress at 4301 Ottmar Road NE space #5, just outside the Moses Lake city limits.

Arriving officers entered the home and discovered an adult male who had been shot. That man was treated by Grant County Fire District 5 firefighters and AMR paramedics and transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

The man was later transferred to a Spokane hospital where he died from his injuries this morning. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. An autopsy will be performed in Spokane.

It is very early in the investigation and many facts are not yet known, but what we believe right now is a man entered the home during an attempted burglary and was allegedly shot by the occupant of that home.

The complete circumstances and other details are being reconstructed by investigators. The homeowner is cooperating with investigators. Because this is a current and evolving investigation, we are currently not revealing the home occupant's name.
