DEVELOPING: Hundreds Dead In Turkey Quake; At Least 5 Pulled Out Alive

ERCIS, Turkey (AP) - A day after a deadly earthquake in eastern Turkey, five people have been pulled alive from the rubble. One man's call from his cell phone led to the rescue of four of them,
including two children. The survivors also included a woman who had been trapped beneath rubble for about 27 hours.

The quake left more than 270 people dead, and trapped dozens of people in concrete, twisted steel and construction debris. It brought down hundreds of buildings in two cities.

In one city near the Iranian border, about 80 multi-story buildings collapsed. Aid groups are scrambling to set up tents, field hospitals and kitchens to help thousands of people who are homeless, or who are too afraid to re-enter their homes.

Many residents spent the night outside, lighting fires to keep warm. One woman says her children, especially a six-year-old, were "terrified."

Officials expect the death toll in the hardest-hit city to rise, but not as much as initially feared. He says there may be 100 people in the rubble.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.
