Animal Lovers Vow Letter Campaign For Cow Shooting; WARNING: Graphic Video & Language
HUFFINGTONPOST.COM - An animal-rights group wants to flood the Gatineau, Que., police force with letters expressing dismay over the shooting of two stray cows.
Video of the incident showed police cars, with lights and sirens going, chasing and surrounding one of the animals as officers fired at least 10 shots from close range.
Part of it was recorded by a horrified witnesses, and the video has been seen more than 150,000 times by viewers from around the world since last week.
The incident event prompted a story on the website of Britain's Daily Mail titled: Don't Moooove, or I'll Shoot!
Canadians for Ethical Treatment of Food Animals, which is organizing the letter campaign, says the animals posed no real threat but were violently and inhumanely killed.
On the Internet, many have chided Gatineau police for excessive cruelty and a lack of compassion towards the cows.
Gatineau police defended their actions last week, saying the animals posed a risk to the public and there was no choice but to shoot. The owner of the two cows had given police consent to shoot the animals.
