UPDATE: Fire At Stevens County Shelter Kills 1 Dog, 2 Cats

ARDEN, Wash. - A fire at the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary in Arden killed a dog and two cats.

Volunteer Lisa Gallagher says the building went up in flames in a matter of minutes Wednesday and rescuers could not reach the animals. Firefighters believe the fire was started by a wood stove.

Other animals were outside or in other buildings at the time of the fire. The all-volunteer shelter operates on private donations. Gallagher says the fire has left it close to the edge.
