Searchers From Idaho And Montana Locate Missing Snowmobilers From Spangle

SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho - The Shoshone County Sheriff's Officer received a report of three overdue snowmobilers Saturday afternoon. The three men Levi Wernz, 19, Todd Clift, 21, and Gary Emtman, 49, all from Spangle, Washington were snowmobiling near Dominion Peak on the Idaho/Montana border.

Clift and Wernz got lost and were unable to get back to Dominion Peak. Clift called for help using a cell phone but did not know his exact location. Emtman made it back to the group's truck and was later able to provide information about where Wernz and Clift had gone.

Deputy John Hayes from the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office and Deputy Adam Cole from the Mineral County Sheriff's Office in Montana coordinated the search and rescue mission. The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida also provided assistance requesting cell phone forensics and a helicopter.

Searchers rode snowmobiles, set out on foot, and took to the air via helicopter with no success early on. However shortly after 6:00 AM (MT) the helicopter crew located Wernze and Clift. Both were hoisted into the helicopter and flown to Saltese, Montana where medical personnel were waiting. Both Wernz and Clift were in good health.
