UPDATE: Deadly Hotel Shooting In Downtown Spokane

UPDATE: The Medical Examiner has confirmed with KHQ that the man who was shot at the Quality Inn over the weekend is named Jose Solis. The preliminary cause of death is a gunshot wound to the trunk, or midsection of the body. It's still not known how many times Solis was shot.

SPD Media Release:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Early Sunday morning at 2:40am, Spokane Patrol officers received a report of a fight with possible gun shots at the Quality Inn, 110 E 4th. When officers arrived, they located a gun shot victim inside an elevator, surrounded by friends.  The 21 year old victim was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries shortly thereafter. 

The shooting suspect fled the hotel in a vehicle and was stopped by a responding K-9 Officer near Hartson and Hatch. The suspect ran from the traffic stop, however was located in the area a short time later by patrol officers.

Spokane Major Crimes Detectives, along with detectives with Spokane Violent Crimes Gang Enforcement Team, responded for the investigation. John A. Castro (7/6/84) was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Murder; there are no outstanding suspects.

The name of the victim will be released by the Medical Examiner's office after the autopsy, which is scheduled for early this week.

Officials didn't say how old the boy was or how he was related to Nichols or Sanders.
