Pullman Man Credited For Preventing Serious Fire

PULLMAN, Wash. - When Pullman Fire crews arrived at 535 Winter Circle Sunday afternoon, they could have been met with a very serious house fire if it weren't for Spencer Clawson. The good samaritan sprang into action when he saw his neighbor's house on fire.

According to firefighters, Clawson saw smoke coming from the attic of his neighbors house, called 911 and grabbed a fire extinguisher. Fire investigator, Erik Taylor said Clawson went next door and found no one home. He used his extinguisher to put out most of the fire which had started in a bucket that contained unextinguished smoking material. The fire in the bucket spread to an exterior wall that was covered with cedar shingles.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found the house filled with smoke and two dogs inside. Firefighters were able to save the dogs and put the rest of the fire out.

Damage to the home was confined to the exterior of the house. The amount of damage done to the house was estimated at between $5,000 and $10,000.

The residents and their dogs were allowed to return to the home a couple hours after fire crews had finished at the scene.
