Attorneys Argue Prison Term For Backpack Bomber Kevin Harpham

SPOKANE, Wash. - Self confessed backpack bomber Kevin Harpham only has a few more days in the Spokane County Jail before he goes to prison.

Federal prosecutors strongly recommend the judge hand down a 32-year sentence followed by a life term of supervised release.

The judge could impose a longer sentence, based on two factors in the case.

One, that Harpham's bomb "created substantial risk of death or serious bodily harm to more than one person."

Two, that the motive behind the offense was to intimidate people.

On the flip side, Harpham's defense team is saying that's not the case.

They argue that Harpham should spend no more than 32 years in prison because, they say, the bomb did not blow up.

What's more, they say Harpham, didn't even try to trigger the bomb.

In short, Harpham's defense team is pushing for the lower end of the sentence, 27-years behind bars.

Harpham is set to be sentenced on Tuesday December 20th, 2011.
