Spokane County Sheriff's Department Press Release:

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - The teenage burglar shot by a Medical Lake resident this morning is currently in STABLE CONDITION following surgery at a downtown hospital.  He has not been arrested, nor has his 14-year-old partner.  The investigation into Monday's burglary and shooting continues and will eventually be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review and any charging decisions.

The 18-year-old suspect who was captured after a blocks-long foot chase mid-day in Medical Lake has been arrested on an outstanding Spokane Municipal Court THEFT warrant and for Residential Burglary.  Mitchell Adam Swift resides in the 400 block of North Silver Lake Road and was charged in connection with the burglary last week of the same 600 N. Previous Coverage:

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - Right now Spokane County Sheriff's major crimes detectives are investigating an early morning shooting in Medical Lake that sent a 14-year-old burglary suspect to the hospital with a single gunshot wound.

According to Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Reagan, shortly before 5 a.m., a resident in the 600 block of north Grant street in Medical Lake called 911 and reported someone breaking into her home and that her husband was holding a suspect in the backyard. Minutes later she reported that a suspect had been shot.

Deputies arrived to find the 14-year-old male suspect with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a Spokane hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition is unknown.

A second suspect, also a 14-year-old, was seen jumping the couple's backyard fence and running down an alley. He was later identified and contacted at his home.

The two suspects were reportedly carrying baseball bats at the time the man confronted them. They had broken into an enclosed room beneath the couple's back deck.

The husband reported that the room had been broken into several days prior, but he had not reported the break-in. He added an alarm to the room which is what alerted him to Monday morning's burglary attempt. Deputies have seized the .45-caliber pistol used in the shooting.

Detectives were expected to be on the scene for much of the day.

The man has provided a statement to detectives, but there was evidence in and around the home that still needed to be collected. Both teen suspects have provided statements to investigators, but as of 9:30 Monday morning, no arrests had been made.

Spokane County Sheriff's investigators say they believe the incident may be drug related.

OMAK, Wash. - I can picture the Austin Powers bit now.  The people of Omak looking up at the sky and seeing a giant (Fill in the blank innuendo here) just like in 1999's Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. If you're unfamiliar, I'll save you a Google search.  A simple, yet effectively funny joke.  Except the U.S. Navy doesn't see humor in the real-life version at all.

KHQ.COM - Cards Against Humanity is known for unique stunts around this time of year. In years past, in an effort to combat Black Friday, they've had people send them $5 and literally sent nothing in return. Just like they said they would.  They've also mailed people poop in a box. 30,000 bought it.  They've even raised $100,000 to dig a giant hole in the ground.
