SPOKANE, Wash. - The City of Spokane building official has determined the Ridpath Hotel to be substandard and has ordered that it cannot be occupied due to lack of compliance with fire suppression requirements and continued unauthorized access into the building.

The hotel located at 515 West Sprague in downtown Spokane is currently vacant of tenants with the exception of the parking garage, which is subleased. The city has been working with the building's owners since February 2011 to try to resolve compliance issues.

On November 21, 2011, the owners were notified that they must repair the building's inoperable fire suppressant system and put security measures in place to prevent unauthorized entry.

A deadline of December 15, 2011 was issued for the owners to resolve the issues. When the substandard conditions were not resolved, the city building official ordered that the building cannot be occupied.

The owners of the hotel have until January 20, 2012 to file an appeal with the City.
