UPDATE: Man Accused Of Trying To Set Wife On Fire Leads Police On Chase; Kills Himself

Kootenai County Sheriff's Press Release:

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office reports that last evening before 11:00 p.m., they received a call from a person who told them that their relative, Daniel Zehm, had his wife, Sondra Zehm and a gun.

Daniel Zehm was arrested in November of 2011 for allegedly throwing gasoline on his Sondra and threatening to light her on fire. There is a current "No Contact Order" against Daniel Zehm.

Daniel allegedly told the reporting party that he was in the Fernan area and heading towards
Kellogg. Sheriff's deputies and Idaho State Police officers began looking for Zehm, with
deputies finding the Zehm vehicle on Fernan Lake Road near the Fernan Gun Range. Deputies
followed Daniel Zehm as he drove up the hill towards Fernan Saddle, finally catching up to him
near the saddle. They attempted to stop Zehm at that time, and Zehm fled, westbound, back
towards Coeur d'Alene.

At one point, during the pursuit, Mrs. Zehm jumped out of the moving vehicle. Mrs. Zehm did not need medical care. As Daniel Zehm entered Fernan Village, his front tires were flattened by a spike device that had been deployed by the Idaho State Police. Coeur d'Alene Police also joined the pursuit at this point. As Zehm went under the I-90 overpass, he suddenly stopped and fatally shot himself.

Due to The Sheriff's Office, Idaho State Police and Coeur d'Alene Police being involved, Sheriff
Watson requested that the Spokane County Sheriff's Office take the lead in conducting the
investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.
