Attorneys Start Mediation In N. Idaho Assault Case
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) - Attorneys for two teenage runaways accused of brutally attacking a 66-year-old northern Idaho woman have started mediation sessions with prosecutors in hopes of resolving the case before it goes to trial next week.
Marshall Dittrich of Danville, Calif., and Joseph Martin, of Denver, are each charged with felony battery with intent to commit robbery in Idaho's 1st District Court.
The Bonner County Daily Bee reports (http://bit.ly/ybQmUC ) the 17-year-olds are scheduled to be tried separately as adults on Jan. 9.
Authorities say Danville and Martin ran away from a boarding school in Montana and were hitchhiking last July when Vera Gadman, of Hope, offered them a ride. The Bonner County sheriff's office says Gadman was choked with a cord and hit with a bottle before she managed to flee the attack.
