Fairchild Honors Military Service Member

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -
The 92nd Security Forces Squadron held a memorial service Thursday morning at Fairchild Air Force Base to honor the service of one of their members.

This service member, however, happens to be a service animal. Lucky is a Belgian Malinois dog. He had served at Fairchild A.F.B since January 2003, and was deployed five times to a variety of locations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as provided support for multiple missions with the U.S. Secret Service, Coalition, and Multinational Forces.

While deployed, MWD Lucky protected and saved the lives of countless personnel. On many occasions, Lucky located and responded to suspected terrorists and searched for explosive components used for improvised explosive devices.

But despite surviving multiple tours of battle, Lucky couldn't overcome his fight with cancer. It would be the only battle he would lose, and passed away on September 30, 2011.
