Murder Charges Dropped In Stevens County Elderly Beating Death

Posted: Updated:

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - Murder charges against Robert Cody Wirtz in the beating death of beating 62 year old Narleen Campton have now been dropped, forcing detectives to start over.

Campton was beat to death in late November at her Northport home.

Last week Stevens county Prosecuting Attorney Tim Rasmussen said he was reluctant to drop the case, but new evidence did not support a conviction.

Private Investigator Ted Pulver told KHQ on Thursday that key evidence had been found showing Wirtz was in Spokane Valley when Campton died.

Pulver tells KHQ that other concrete evidence that solidifies Wirtz's innocence was also found..

According to a statement released by Prosecuting Attorney Tim Rasmussen, the investigation is not over and will not be abandoned until the persons responsible for the brutal murder of this elderly person are brought to justice.
