UPDATE: North County Pursuit Ends With Arrest

KHQ.COM - A traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to display visible license plates turned into a pursuit Tuesday afternoon when the driver failed to stop and began evading a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy.

The incident began at 1239 p.m. when Deputy Jeff Thurman attempted to stop the 1992 Honda Civic in the area of the 8500 block of North Country Holmes Blvd.

Deputy Thurman tried to safely end pursuit by attempting a PIT technique (Pursuit Intervention Technique) but the driver, later identified as Aaron D. Lyons, 33, intentionally swerved into his patrol vehicle.

Shortly after Lyons crashed into some shrubbery when he failed to successfully negotiate a turn into the parking lot of Rite Aid on North Division. Deputy Thurman used his patrol vehicle to block any escape and took Lyons into custody.

The Honda driven by Lyons was reported as stolen on the 16th of January and he was also found to be in possession of a reported stolen credit card.

Lyons was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on felony charges of Assault 2nd, attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and malicious mischief 2nd. He also faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving while license suspended/revoked 1st.

Deputy Thurman was treated and released for minor injuries he received during the incident.
