Spokane Police Arrest Man For Attempted Murder

Spokane Police Department Press Release:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Just after 10:00pm Saturday night, Spokane Police received a 911 cell phone call from the vicinity of 800 W. York.  A male and female could be heard arguing in the background about a restraining order.  911 heard the male ordering the female upstairs and heard the male say he was going to kill the female. 911 was able to pinpoint the location of the call and officers were dispatched.

When officers arrived they could hear a female screaming inside.  As officers made entry into the house they could clearly hear the sound of a round being chambered in a firearm.  The officers located the male and female in an upstairs bedroom and the male was taken into custody.  Two minor children were also located at the residence.

The male had been armed with a 9MM Carbine. Police arrested 42 year old Corey A Holten for Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Burglary, and Felony Violation of a No Contact Order.  Holten had been served a No Contact Order earlier in the day by Spokane Police which prohibited him having contact with the victim female at this residence.

This is another example of a potentially lethal encounter which police face.  Domestic Violence situations can be very dynamic and dangerous.  Quick actions by police prevented any further injury.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Initiative-1639 has been the root of controversy ever since supporters began asking for signatures. It became even more complicated when the Washington Supreme Court overturned a Thurston County judges decision after the judge initially threw out over 300,000 signatures saying the petition didn't follow election law claiming it was unreadable.
