Central Valley won Thursday's Battle of the Bone wrestling match against University (Photo: SWX)After losing a decision to Mead on Tuesday, Central Valley went into the biggest wrestling match of the season – the Battle of the Bone - with a little more fire in the belly.
Central Valley vs. University. A fiery duel for Spokane Valley pride.
The Bears jumped out to an early points lead when Colton Orrino, all 126 pounds of him, beat Dane Froebe. Central Valley, in fact, took the first three matchups to lead 13-0.
University put a rally together and won the next three matchups, but Central Valley was too tough in the end. They won the match 32-23, and they won the bone.
"I told the kids this is more than a wrestling match, it's an event," CV coach John Owen told The Spokesman-Review, which estimated a crowd of about 2,500 fans at the rivalry match.
