UPDATE: Woman Killed In Early Morning Mead Fire

UPDMEAD, Wash. - A woman died early Thursday morning in a fire at the Shenandoah Forest mobile home park on East Lane Park in Mead.

Police say there were five people inside the mobile home when the fire first started.

Fire investigators are talking to the people in the house at the time of the fire to try to figure out a cause.

Fire crews were called out at about 5:10 AM and are still responding to explosions. The identity of the victim has not been released. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives are assisting Fire District's 4 and 9 with the investigation of a mobile home fire that was reported at approximately 0500 hrs this morning in north Spokane. When emergency personnel arrived on scene the double wide mobile home was fully engulfed.  

According to occupants of the residence there were 5 people who lived in the home,   3 adults and 2 children.  Both children and two of the adults were able to safely exit the residence. An adult female was not able to exit the home.

Due to the fact that the fire resulted in a fatality it is common practice for Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives to assist in the investigation. If it is determined that there were no crimes involved with the cause of the fire, the scene will be released to fire personnel.

However, if it is determined that the cause of the fire was criminal in nature, Major Crimes detectives will take over as the lead investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
