Sheriff: Search Crews Find Stranded N. Idaho Woman

Posted: Updated:

OROFINO, Idaho (AP) - Authorities located a northern Idaho woman who was reported missing by her husband after their vehicle got stuck in deep snow and she left on foot to find help.

The Clearwater County sheriff's office says 66-year-old Helen Alocco of Orofino was found early Tuesday, nearly two full days after she and her husband were stranded. The couple went for a drive early Sunday and say their vehicle got stuck around 10 a.m.

The next morning, Alocco decided to hike back to Orofino for help with her dog. Her husband, Carl Alocco, told authorities he was able to free his vehicle at about noon on Monday and returned home, calling police when he discovered his wife had not returned. Search crews found the woman and her dog about 12 hours later.
