Driver Hits Spokane Police Detective's Vehicle Downtown

SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane Police detective's vehicle was involved in a crash on Thursday night at approximately 11:30 pm. The police car was parked blocking westbound traffic on Boone at Washington as part of traffic control during a concert at the Spokane Arena.

The vehicle had its emergency lights fully activated in the well-lit intersection. The detective was out of his car directing traffic at another part of the intersection when a westbound traveling vehicle struck the detective's car. The collision caused significant damage to the police car. The driver was issued a citation for negligent driving and no vehicle insurance. No one was injured in the accident.

Traffic control is present at most all arena events. The Spokane Police Department recommends using extra caution when traveling through this area during an event due to the heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
