DEVELOPING STORY: Man Arrested For Assaulting 1-Year-Old

SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane man was arrested late Tuesday night on charges of 3rd degree assault to a child and reckless endangerment. Police say around 7PM Tuesday an ambulance was called to residence in the 7000 block of North Colton for the report of an injured woman and her child.

Medics got to the apartment first and transported the mother and her baby to Sacred Heart. Police met with the mother and baby at Sacred Heart and the woman told them her brother, Eric S. Peters threatened her, assaulted her, and kicked her child in the face.  Peters then said he was going back to her apartment to 'shoot the place up.'

A search led police to Peter's apartment located on East North Crescent Avenue.  When police got there, they told KHQ they thought they heard a shot gun. For safety and the possibility that Peters was armed, they evacuated a few apartments and brought in SWAT crews.

Peters was in his apartment at the time and peacefully came out and surrendered to police. Police didn't find a weapon in the residence.

Peters is facing multiple charges including 3rd degree assault of a child and reckless endangerment. No word this morning on the mother and child's injuries.
