BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - A third grade girl was shot at an elementary school in Bremerton Wednesday afternoon, reportedly by another third grader.
According to KING5-TV in Seattle, it happened Armin Jar Elementary School in Bremerton. A teacher working in the office said the girl was shot in a classroom around 1:30 p.m.
A firearm was found in a classroom and one student was detained, according to the Kitsap Sun. KIRO-TV reports the teacher's husband says the 3rd grader pressed a gun against the girl's abdomen and fired.
Police have not confirmed the child's condition nor the circumstances of the shooting, but several news media outlets are reporting the child shot was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
The school was placed under lock down. Children could be seen being escorted out of the building about a half-hour after the shooting.
