SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire in northwest Spokane that destroyed a home.
Crews were called to a report of a fully engulfed garage near the intersection of North Fotheringham and West Central around 1 a.m. Thursday.
When crews arrived, the fire was quickly upgraded to a working fire because flames had spread to the home next to the garage. KHQ was first on scene and captured video of flames shooting as high as eight feet in the air above the home.
The four people who lived inside the home made it out safely - a father, mother and their two boys ages 7 and 10, according to a family friend. That friend also said the family's new puppy alerted them to the fire. The family is now staying with a friend.
How the fire started is under investigation but they do say it appears the fire started in the garage.
