Body Found In Bonnie Lake Investigated As Homicide

WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. - The investigation continues Tuesday surrounding what now appears to be a murder after a body was found near Bonnie Lake on Sunday. Bonnie Lake is about 25 miles south of Spokane off Highway 195. It crosses the Spokane and Whitman County line, but the Whitman County Sheriff is handling the investigation.

A fisherman we talked with Tuesday found the body on Sunday and authorities announced Monday they are investigating the death as a murder. At this point we're still waiting for the man to be identified.

One neighbor said there are maybe three to five homes within ten miles of where the body was found. James Willmon found the murder victim, and said that at first glance he thought it may have been a log, then thought it was a mannequin before he realized it was much more serious than that.

In order to get up to Bonnie Lake you need to go up a creek, and that's what the fisherman were doing when they came across the victim. But once they found him the troubles continued because there is little cell phone service in the area and it took a while before they could even call 911.

KHQ Local News reached out to the Whitman County Coroner and the Sheriff's Office Tuesday, but never did hear back.
