MOSCOW, Idaho -

The Idaho Vandals did not scrimmage over the weekend as originally planned. However, they did, in fact, get a wild workout.

Head coach Robb Akey decided to mix things up, opting for a fast-paced practice instead of a game-like situation. Of course, don't let the word "practice" fool you; the Vandals were out in full force at the Kibbie Dome.

"I think we're doing a better job at playing full-speed," said Akey after the workout. "I think they're starting to understand some of those things. That work in the weight room pays off when you get something like that."

Technically, Akey called it a practice – with a little bit of game intensity.

"It's a lot more physical," said senior linebacker Robert Siavii. "He's putting in the live game, so it makes everything much more physical. Everybody is bringing the heat. It's kind of hard for the quarterbacks to make their calls and adjustments because we're all bouncing around."

Saturday marked the halfway mark for spring practice. The practices end April 20 with the Silver and Gold game – the final scrimmage aired live on SWX.

Notes: Akey said the contest between juniors Taylor Davis and Dominique Blackman is far from over. Both are making progress but he has yet to decide which one will get the nod in fall.
