The Spokane Lilac Festival is MUCH more than a parade. But without the parade, we wouldn't have a reason to exist.
Hal and I both began as your typical spectator bringing our lawn chairs out to the parade route to watch our kids march in this annual event. We always thought, "What a nice thing that our city does putting on this parade each year." We had no idea just how far and wide the scope of the festival is. It truly takes hundreds if not thousands of people too bring Spokane the Lilac parade. Many of these people aren't even directors, a.k.a. Purple Coaters (Lilac Festival members). Many of the volunteers just enjoy participating and giving back to their community. Numerous volunteers are never seen themselves, but you will see the fruits of their labor…. The Float, The Parade Line Up, The magic way the bleachers come and go, and the street cleaning helpers that sweep up after all is said and done, so that no one can tell a parade actually happened!
Like I said though, the Parade itself is just the tip of the ice burg. Take a look inside the Lilac Festival and you will see dozens of hard working, kind hearted, believers in the greater good. Celebrations… they are universal, and we in Spokane are mighty lucky to have ours on the 3rd Saturday of EVERY May…. The Spokane Lilac Festival!
We hope to see everyone there! WEARING Purple this year!
We've all seen games here in Spokane and on television where the team asks all those coming to the game to wear a special color. Well this year we want to do the same thing at the Lilac Parade!
Wouldn't it be cool to see the streets of Spokane lined in all shades of purple for the parade?
This is our 1st Annual Paint the Town Purple Event! You can wear any purple shirt you have in the closet or your can purchase one of this year's logo T-Shirts for $10.
