SPOKANE, Wash. - As part of our 'Cougar Coverage' this week, we spoke with a WSU alum and Spokane native who recently helped put the Cougars on the national stage.
Leroy Miller loves his alma mater... and the game of golf. So when he had the honor of attending the masters in Augusta in early April, he got a great idea.
He held up his WSU windbreaker right as all the cameras were trained over the winner, Bubba Watson, for the green jacket ceremony. Miller just hoped his family back home would see him in the crowd; they did, but do did a lot of other people.
"it's gotten way bigger than even I expected," he said.
The video was shown around the country, even making ESPN. Now, Miller's done several interviews about it, all in the name of Cougar pride.
"I held it up for 5 or 6 seconds, and had no idea it would be picked up directly over Charl Schwartzel's shoulder, and every time the green jacket is being put on Bubba, there's the cougar logo, I mean it was really random. It really was," he added.
Now, Miller will even have the honor of being introduced at tomorrow's big game in Spokane, and of course, he says, "Go Cougs."
