DETROIT, Mich. – The Mariners opened up their 10-game road trip with a 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night, tallying 15 hits and ending their four-game losing streak.

Seattle gave Max Scherzer trouble right off the bat, as Chone Figgins was walked and then moved to third on a Dustin Ackley single. After Ichiro Suzuki popped out to second base, Jesus Montero opened up the scoring with a single to left center to bring in Figgins. After a pop out to shortstop by Kyle Seager, Alex Liddi singled to load the bases with two outs. Scherzer then struck out Michael Saunders, limiting the damage to one run on three hits.

Ackley opened up the third with a walk, followed by a single by Ichiro. After a Montero fly out, Seager singled to center field, bringing in Ackley. After getting a second out on a Liddi strikeout, Saunders hit a deep double to left center scoring Ichiro and Seager and giving the M's a four run lead.

Detroit got on the board in the third on a two-out single by Brennan Boesch that brought in Brandon Inge. They then narrowed the gap further in the fourth on an Alex Avila two-run homer.

Seager lead off the fifth with a single, Liddi then moved him over to third on a single of his own and then stole second base. Miguel Olivo then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Seager while Liddi was thrown out at third.

Miguel Cabrera hit a solo shot in the fifth bringing their margin back to one.

Liddi added a solo home run in the seventh, putting Seattle up 6-4.

Reliever Tom Wilhelmsen found himself in a jam in the eighth as he gave up two straight singles to Cabrera and Prince Fielder. A fly out by Delmon Young moved Cabrera to third. Wilhelmsen escaped the inning unharmed by striking out the next two batters.

The Mariners added a little insurance in the ninth on a two-out double by Saunders that scored Ichiro. Casper Wells, who was pinch running for Montero, was unable to beat the throw home.

Brandon League then came on in the bottom of the ninth and after giving up a leadoff walk, he retired the next three batters to seal the victory and earn a save.

The M's lineup was very productive as eight of the nine starters produced 15 hits on the night. Liddi and Ichiro lead the way for the club with three each.

Starter Jason Vargas threw for six innings allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Steve Delabar, Wilhelmsen, and League combined for three innings of shutout ball to close out the game, each throwing for an inning.

Scherzer got his second loss of the season as he gave up ten hits to Seattle, allowing five runs and striking out six.

The Mariners and Tigers will continue the series in Detroit tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. PDT.
