WSU in Seventh After First Round of Pac-12 Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Cougars are in seventh place after shooting a first round 312 (+24) during a windy first round of the Pac-12 Championships held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club Friday.

Emma Betland fired a three-over 75 to lead the Cougars tied for fifth place after the first round of the Pac-12 Championships, Friday. The junior had three birdies.

"Emma is a junior and is a talented young woman. She's had close rounds and she knows she can do it," said Head Coach Kellie Kamimiura

Freshman Kristen Rue carded a 78 (+6) and is tied for 25th after the first round. Senior Kristen Allard posted a 79 (+7) and is tied for 33rd. Both Rue and Allard had three birdies, all on the back nine.

Freshman Lindsay Harmon posted an 80 (+8) and is tied for 39th. Harmon birdied on the fifteenth hole. Sophomore Mallory Kent carded an 81 (+9) to tie for 45th.

WSU is three strokes ahead of No. 17 Arizona and No. 26 Washington who are tied for eighth at 315 (+27), and eight strokes ahead of No. 40 Stanford, who is in 11th place at 320 (+32).

"I'm really proud of how the girls played today. The conditions were tough. They got out on the back nine, came out firing and began making birdies," commented Kamimura.

No. 5 Arizona State is in the lead after the first round with a 299 (+11). No. 1 UCLA is five strokes back at 304 (+16), while No. 3 USC and No. 13 California are tied for third at 306 (+18).

Arizona State's No. 6 Giulia Molinaro is in first place with a one-under 71, the only under par shot of the round. Tied for second is Jennifer Coleman of Colorado, No. 2 Erynne Lee of UCLA, and No. 9 Lisa McCloskey of USC with 74 (+2).

Second round play will begin at 8:30 a.m. with fixed start. Fifteen groups will go off from the first hole and ten groups from the tenth hole. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com

Arizona State senior Giulia Molinaro leads all individuals after posting a one-under 71, the only round under par on the day... ASU owns the top spot over UCLA by five strokes.
